While wearing braces, brushing and flossing is more important than ever before. You will need to brush your teeth after every meal and floss at least twice a day. We will go over the right methods to use when you get your braces placed, but if you need a quick refresher, here is our guide on brushing and flossing with braces.
Brushing with Braces
Each time you brush your teeth, it should take two minutes. You need a soft-bristled brush with a small head and fluoride toothpaste. On the outside and inside surfaces, use a circular motion with the brush at a 45-degree angle to the gums. On the bite surfaces, use short, back-and-forth strokes. Be careful not to be rough on the braces.
Flossing with Braces
Flossing should be done at least twice a day, though we suggest it after each meal. You can use a threader to make this easier, or even a water pick. Be certain to get the area around the braces clean and get under the gumline for the best possible results.
